Crafting Log 2

Again this week we have another post where I proudly show off what I've been working on. One of the things that I feel is really important about crafting and making things is that you don't need to feel guilty about showing them off respectfully. It not only encourages other crafters to keep going on their own projects or get inspired to make new things, but it also opens up a dialogue where you can impart your own personal wisdom from your experience.

A few stats on the finished piece: I bordered it with three rounds of half double-crochet in red heart black. As far as I can tell, I used roughly 30 skeins of Red Heart Super Saver in Neon Stripes, 5oz each. As previously mentioned, I had to keep going back for more after continuously underestimating how much more yarn it would take, so they are not all from the same dye lot.

It measures 80 inches by 80 inches. It's very heavy, and very, very, warm. It completely covers a king size bed, but without any draping over the sides.

My color stripes each had 9 clusters across, and I often had to force them to fit or stretch into nine clusters. The yarn isn't perfect, and neither is the blanket. But if you take a step back and look at the big picture, it looks damn good.

And my dog loves it too <3

And around the same time I started my first planned pooling project, I also wanted to try out a corner-to-corner blanket. I decided stripes would be the easiest thing to go with, and sketched out a pattern. It's something I worked on when lugging the giant planned pooling blanket around wasn't worth it anymore.

It's coming together well, I think.

I also wanted to make Tupper (our dog) a new outdoor dog bed, so that we could put the one we've been using back inside, as I custom made it to fit the bottom of a cabinet. To make this, I used "snuggle flannel" (thanks JoAnn holiday sale) and 6 layers of fleece. I stuffed the sides with poly-fil, and sewed it in around three sides. Then I shoved a bunch inside and sewed up the last side, pushing all of the stuffing back over once it was closed and sewing it in place.

I think it fulfilled its purpose perfectly :)

Also this week, I constructed two more cloth diapers. I found that using a binder clip to hold the elastic in place to sew down worked really well.

And that's my progress for this week, I'm happy to answer any additional questions anyone may have, no matter how much time has passed!

(Basically, I'm putting this up so that I have a record of my own process, but I also want to encourage anyone who finds it on their own to go for it. I'm here to help!)

Thanks for reading!
